Steve has owned and trained dogs since the age of 11 years and has owned both pet and working dogs.
Steve served in the police service for 32 years recently retiring. During Steve police service he was privileged to be chosen and work in the role of a police dog handler and as a police dog trainer.
Steve spent 27 years working on the police dog section and has handled 5 General purpose police dogs, 2 Person Scanning drugs dogs, a cash drugs and firearms search dog and an explosive search dog. Steve undertook and successfully passed ACPO/NPCC accredited Police dog instructor courses for General Purpose Police Dogs, Firearm Support Dogs, Drugs cash and firearms search and person scanning dogs and explosive search and person scanning dogs.
Steve is also a qualified dog legislation officer and court accepted expert witness for the identification of dog type, dangerous dogs, dog training, police and security dog training and use and deployment of police and security dogs.
The last 12 years of Steve service was as the chief instructor at British Transport Police Dog Training School where he managed the training for all the forces dog and handler teams and assessed potential police dogs for their suitability for the role and also assessed prospective handlers for their suitability to be future dog handlers.
Steve has a wealth of experience in dog training and behaviour for puppy development as well adult dog training. Steve understands and appreciates that dog training is continually developing and there are always new and improved ways and methods for training dogs being identified and is a keen advocate of continual professional development in his role as a dog trainer.
Steve knows that no 2 dogs are the same and has the understanding, knowledge and expert experience in a wide variety of training techniques and methods to achieve the very best from your puppy or dog whatever their age.
Steve understands that to achieve the best results, all training needs to be fun, progressive, and rewarding for both the dog and handler. He has a sound background in puppy training and development as well as adult dog training and can assist prospective new dog owners on deciding which dog is right for them.
Steve is a keen supporter of positive reward-based training and reward based self-learning. He understands that for you to bring the best out of your puppy or dog you need to be considerate, patient, and consistent in training.
All training provided by Steve is tailored to both the dog and the handler/owner so as to provide the best training experience which is enjoyable fun filled and progressive whilst achieving the results you want and building that special bond between dog and owner.
